Check the requirements before your final export
Valve updates its requirements over time. The dimensions below were reviewed on July 25, 2026 against the official Steamworks documentation. Use this list to plan and validate your deliverables, but check the official documentation again before the final publication.
Store capsules
The four main formats are the 920 × 430 px Header Capsule, 462 × 174 px Small Capsule, 1232 × 706 px Main Capsule, and 748 × 896 px Vertical Capsule. These images represent the game in different store contexts. The Small Capsule needs special attention because it appears in lists and search results where the logo must remain readable at even smaller display sizes.
Screenshots, page background, and bundles
Steam requires at least five gameplay screenshots. Each screenshot must use a 16:9 aspect ratio and a minimum resolution of 1920 × 1080 px. The optional Page Background uses 1438 × 810 px. For bundles, the Bundle Header is 707 × 232 px. Screenshots should show the game being played and avoid concept art, marketing copy, awards, and overlaid descriptions.
Library images
The Library Capsule is 600 × 900 px and the Library Header uses 920 × 430 px. The Library Hero is 3840 × 1240 px and cannot contain text. The Library Logo must be a transparent PNG that is 1280 px wide and/or 720 px tall. Since the Hero and Logo appear as separate layers, they need to work together without relying on a fixed composition.
Application and shortcut icons
The Shortcut Icon can be 256 × 256 px or 512 × 512 px and should be submitted as ICO or PNG. The App Icon is 184 × 184 px and must be JPG. Since these elements appear in compact areas of the client, simple shapes and a recognizable silhouette usually work better than small details.
Validate files before uploading
An automatic check prevents incorrect dimensions from being discovered only while configuring the store page. Almatter's checker reads files locally, identifies assets with compatible dimensions, checks format-specific requirements, and flags images that need adjustment. No files are uploaded to a server.
Quick Steam asset checklist
- Separate files into store, library, community, and event folders.
- Keep an editable source file for each aspect ratio instead of only stretching or cropping one artwork.
- Check logo readability in the Small Capsule.
- Keep important elements near the safe central area of the Library Hero.
- Export the Library Logo as a transparent PNG and the App Icon as JPG.
- Validate dimensions and check the official documentation before the final upload.
A simple file organization system reduces rework and helps maintain a consistent visual identity everywhere the game appears on Steam.
